Frank and I had the opportunity to take another travel adventure to celebrate our birthdays this month to the Pacific Northwest. Our trip consists of two parts, first stop was in Portland then to Seattle. Choosing to travel up north was easy because neither one of us had ever been and we have some friends who live up there that we were wanting to visit. The fact that there are breweries galore in bicycle friendly cities had nothing to do with it at all......right?
Staying in Portland, we found the Friendly Bike Guesthouse on Yelp that had a lot of good reviews. It's located just a few miles north of downtown. Everything about this place exudes cycling. Everything form the framed cycling photos and decors to the convenient maintenance station located on the bottom floor with bike racks to store your bikes. Our guesthouse was just a short walking distance to many eateries including the Hopworks Bike Bar, a bicycle themed restaurant that brews their own beer. One of the best things I love about this restaurant, besides the bike frames lined up above the bar and the bicycle rim beer sampling trays, is that they have these stationary bikes outside the front door that is connected into the building. Basically, if you ride it, not only will you get a $1 off your beer, your hardworking pedaling will be generating power into the building. Discount on beer, your burn the calories AND have the power to produce energy to the business? Count me in!
