Below is a press release from The California Bicycle Coalition:
Governor Jerry Brown Signs Assembly Bill 1371 into Law
After numerous attempts that all ended in vetoes, cyclists will get three feet of passing space. Anyone who has cycled on public streets have probably experienced a near-miss from a motorist. Overall, this law is a step in the right direction, but only $185 more if the cyclist is struck by a motorist and bodily harm is caused? What if the cyclist is struck and no bodily harm is cause? As a cyclist, I might be biased, but I'd like to see some harsher penalties.
Good riding and tell your friends. The law becomes operative September 16, 2014, so ride safe. If you are behind the wheel, ignore what I just said and pretend it has become operative.
